The following blog is the first in a series showcasing photographers and illustrators perception of Copenhagen’s waterfront and it’s ever changing neighborhoods. The first is urban sketcher and illustrator João Albergaria.

With Copenhagen’s waterfront neighborhoods undergoing extensive development, the harbor’s characteristic houseboat & fishing communities and marinas have come under the eye of João Albergaria, a Portuguese architect, illustrator and urban sketcher.

Capturing Copenhagen’s magical harbor life with pen and paper.

Since moving to Copenhagen in 2012, João has been capturing the city’s urban landscape and skyline via his pen and sketch pad, but his work that resonants with me, is his vibrant work highlighting Copenhagen’s magical harbor life, especially in my neighborhood of Sluseholmen and Sydhavnen.
João’s talented work reflects wonderfully the clash of a nostalgic era with todays architectural solutions. Follow João’s and Urban Sketchers Copenhagen work here.
