The Aesop brand is no stranger to Copenhagen. The Australian company is not only famed for its specialized skin and hair products, but also the choice of locations for its signature stores and the quality of craftsmanship behind these unique retail interiors. The latest addition to Aesop’s presence in Copenhagen, is located in the historical and atmospheric, Store Strandstræde. Adjacent to Nyhavn, the narrow Store Strandstræde is so close to the bustling harbor tourist attractions and yet this thoroughfare has its own distinctive identity. Home to niche brands, such as the evergreen Bruno & Joel, Store Strandstræde is the perfect choice for Aesop’s latest Nordic adventure.
Aesop Nyhavn in a transformed Store Strandstræde
Store Strandstræde is currently undergoing a major transformation and Aesop has invested its retail presence in a recently renovated 17th. century property. The interior design, like all Aesop projects seeks inspiration for materials and textures from the surrounding locality and importantly, the soul of the street. In collaboration with the German design studio, einszu33, the 40m² retail space has been transformed into calm and friendly space, highlighted by the handcrafted fire-burned yellow bricks for the flooring. The points of sales, wonderfully curved “bulks” a clear reference to the boats moored in Nyhavn, are handcrafted using wood and brass. The back wall, clad in a wooven wool fabric lends to the friendly atmosphere and the acoustics. The light concept by the Norwegian studio, Concept Design, a collaboration used on the previous project in Værnedamvej in Frederiksberg, works flawlessly. The decorative eyecatcher, is the glass art, specially designed for the location by the young German designer, Fabio Vogel. And if this wasn’t enough this immaculate space, has an adjoing outdoor terrace. Aesop take a bow.
