Arket, the latest addition to the H&M stable, moved into 1000m² of the ground floor at Købmagergade 33, at the beginning of September, joining its sister store in London’s Regent Street. Arket, a Swedish retail brand that quietly and minimally combines mens, womens & kidswear with lifestyle products and a café focusing on new nordic cuisine. The concept contrasts interestingly with its palatial surroundings with the grey hues and lighting concept aiming to find balance with the merchandize on show. Arket will be opening in locations in Brussels and Munich later this year.
Prior to Arket moving in at Købmagergade 33 was probably one the most visited addresses in Copenhagen. Generations of Danes and tourists have stood patiently in line, at The Royal Post Office, Postgaarden, waiting to deliver or collect mail. When the post office finally sold its final postage stamp in 2015, the 16.000m² listed building, was sold to PFA Pension and renovated into a multifunctional building by Årstiderne Arkitekter. Hopefully, Arket will be welcoming customers back into this inviting retail space.
