Copenhagen´s Christmas Markets are maybe not in the same league as Berlin’s, however over the last few years Copenhagen has seen the concept blossom. One of the best and smallest, is the Designers Christmas Market in Frederiksberg, a neighborhood in central Copenhagen. Located in a yard on H.C. Ørstedsvej, the market has become a popular attraction and a shop window for young design talents looking for an opportunity to engage with a new customer platform. The founder behind the Designers Christmas Market is the event designer, Mai Christoffersen, who started the project 7 years ago.
Two of the talents that caught my eye this weekend, were Nini Andersen, the creative force behind Le Square and the designer Frédéric Collette. Nini’s digital eco artwork is crisply printed on ceramic tiles that are produced in India. The variety of prints offer a host of possibilities for diverse interior projects. Nini´s neighbor at the market, Frédéric Collette had on show a couple of pieces from his Kant Collection, small-scale furniture wonderfully crafted in oak. Frédéric´s technique of smoking solid oak and combining the dark and light tones is a playful approach and an attractive furniture solution for children and adults. It is not surprising that the market has become so popular with Copenhagen’s design savvy shoppers with the talents of Nini and Frédéric on show.
The Designers Christmas Market is open during the 5th. – 6th. December and the 12th. – 13th. December, 10-17:00 hrs.
